Basilicata is a hidden treasure of stunning scenery, the region forms the instep of the Italian 'Boot' it could also be described as the only secret region left, full of architecture and historical art, warm people and delicious food and wine.  Regular flights to Bari and Brindisi by Ryanair is really opening up this enchanting region.

The surrounding area is rich in history, from greek and roman ruins at Metaponto and the famously strange 'Trulli' houses at Alberobello. There is also troglodyte dwellings cut into the rock in the 'Sassi' at Matera.

Wherever you travel in Italy the food is always outstanding, Basilicata is no exception, rich with local specialities. The warm dry climate is ideal for wine making especially full bodied reds. In Basilicata the sun is almost always shining.
